SAFETYCAR EV Automatic Fire Suppression System User Manual & Installation Guide

Please read this guide carefully before installing or using the product and retain it for future reference.

The flexible yet durable tube of the SAFETYCAR® EV Automatic Fire Suppression System can be mounted within the vehicle’s front compartment or frunk, around the electrical and electronic components you wish to protect. Installation is simple and usually takes less than 30 minutes in most vehicles.

What Is the SAFETYCAR EV Automatic Fire Suppression System?

The SAFETYCAR EV Automatic Fire Suppression System is an automatic fire suppression system designed to provide cost-effective and reliable protection for electrical and electronic components located within an electric vehicle’s front compartment or frunk.

Offering 24/7 fire monitoring and detection, it activates automatically without manual intervention to release a high-performance clean fire extinguishing agent. The system operates without a power supply and can protect components such as the 12V auxiliary battery, electrical wiring, fuse boxes, control modules and other accessible low-voltage equipment.

The system features a specially designed tube containing a precise volume of SCL25™ Clean Agent for optimum performance in vehicles. The durable polyamide tube is engineered to provide long-lasting protection within vehicle front compartments.

How Does the SAFETYCAR EV Automatic Fire Suppression System Work?

When a fire occurs, the system’s temperature-sensitive tube bursts at the activation temperature.

The SCL25™ Clean Agent stored inside the tube is released as a fine, pressurised mist to rapidly suppress flames before dispersing as a gas.

SCL25™ Clean Agent is non-conductive, non-corrosive and suitable for use around sensitive vehicle electronics. It leaves no powder or messy residue and is effective against Class A, Class B, Class C and electrical fires.

The system requires no vehicle electrical connection and remains active continuously, including while the vehicle is charging, parked or unattended.

Please Read Carefully

Professional Installation Recommended

Professional installation is recommended to ensure suitable positioning, secure mounting and effective coverage.

Installation should preferably be carried out by a competent professional familiar with electric vehicles. Improper installation may result in system failure, property damage, injury or death and may void the manufacturer’s warranty.

No Guarantee of Fire Prevention

The SAFETYCAR EV Automatic Fire Suppression System is designed to help suppress fires within the protected vehicle compartment.

It does not guarantee that a fire will be prevented or that heat or fire damage will not occur. A suitable portable fire extinguisher should always be carried inside your vehicle.

Traction Battery Limitation

The system is designed to protect accessible electrical and electronic components within the vehicle’s front compartment or frunk.

It is not designed to be installed inside the vehicle’s high-voltage traction battery and does not guarantee the prevention or suppression of thermal runaway occurring within the traction battery.

High-Voltage Safety

Do not open, disconnect, remove or interfere with any high-voltage component.

Work involving the vehicle’s high-voltage electrical system must only be carried out by appropriately qualified personnel.

Vehicle Compatibility

The system is designed to fit most electric vehicles, but compatibility with every specific vehicle make, model or front-compartment configuration cannot be guaranteed.

Operating Limits

The system must be installed and used within the operating temperature range of -40°C to 90°C.

The manufacturer’s warranty does not cover use outside the specified operating conditions.

Use at Your Own Risk

SAFETYCAR is not liable for damage, loss, injury or death resulting from the installation, storage, use or failure of the SAFETYCAR EV Automatic Fire Suppression System, subject to the applicable Conditions of Use.

Installation

The SAFETYCAR EV Automatic Fire Suppression System should be installed within the vehicle’s front compartment or frunk, around the accessible electrical and electronic components requiring protection.

Car fire extinguisher hood installation

SAFETYCAR SCL25 installation within an electric vehicle front compartment or frunk and around accessible 12V electrical and electronic components.

  • Use high-quality reusable cable ties to aid installation.
  • Use additional mounting hardware, not included, to ensure secure installation where required.
  • Professional installation is recommended.
  • Position the tube to provide suitable coverage around the 12V auxiliary battery, wiring, fuse boxes, control modules and other accessible components requiring protection.
  • Ensure that the SAFETYCAR EV Automatic Fire Suppression System is positioned away from moving parts at all times.
  • Do not allow the tube to contact fans, hinges, locking mechanisms, linkages or other moving components.
  • Do not cut, pierce, kink, crush or sharply bend the tube.
  • Do not install the tube inside, beneath or directly onto the vehicle’s high-voltage traction battery.
  • Do not open, disconnect, remove or interfere with high-voltage cables, connectors, warning covers or sealed electrical components.
  • Do not obstruct access to emergency isolation points, service disconnects or components requiring routine maintenance.
  • The optional pressure gauge operates between -40°C and 90°C. Position it where it can be inspected and away from heat sources.
  • The tube is designed to burst and release the extinguishing agent at 120°C ± 10°C.
  • Install the system away from any component subject to high temperatures or significant temperature fluctuations.
  • Ensure that the bonnet and frunk close fully without contacting, trapping or crushing the tube.
  • Write the date of installation on the enclosed Service Sticker and attach it to a visible part of the vehicle’s front compartment.

The Service Sticker provides a convenient physical record of when the product was installed. The product’s five-year rated service life is calculated from the invoice date.

Product Inspection

Inspect the system periodically and whenever the vehicle is serviced.

Check that:

  • The tube remains securely mounted.
  • The tube has not moved into contact with any moving or high-temperature component.
